Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Police Intake Specialist to join our team at the City of New Orleans, LA. As a Police Intake Specialist, you will be responsible for taking police reports via telephone and the New Orleans Police Department's online reporting system, completing appropriate and required paperwork, resolving conflict, communicating clearly with citizens and other law enforcement professionals, and disseminating information as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Disseminate information as required
  • Conduct light investigations and follow-ups
  • Prepare and update records and reports
  • Generate reports and conduct follow-ups regarding information submitted via the online reporting system
  • Review online police reports for completeness and contact submitters for additional information and/or corrections
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Or Associate's degree in criminal justice, paralegal studies, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
  • Or high school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience in the following areas: criminal justice, investigations, paralegal, complaint intake, customer service call center, high volume data entry, social services case intake, or a related field
Working Conditions

This is an original entrance examination. The Police Department will conduct a background investigation, which will include a computer voice stress analysis (CVSA), a urinalysis to detect usage of illegal narcotic substances, and a check of arrest and conviction record. All applicants are required to assist and cooperate with the Civil Service Department and the Police Department in obtaining past employment records or personal history information.
