Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Maintenance Worker I to join our team in the Parks Planning and Open Space division of the Neighborhood Services department. As a Maintenance Worker I, you will assist in the care and maintenance of various City open spaces, trails, and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain open spaces, trails, and trailheads
  • Perform general landscape and tree maintenance, including clearing brush, weeds, and trash
  • Assist with the organization and leading of volunteer groups on projects
  • Build and maintain trails, fencing, and other projects as assigned
  • Prepare open space areas for special events
  • Clear fallen trees from trails, parking lots, and other areas
  • Establish working relationships with City staff and members of the public
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Class C California Driver's License and safe driving record
  • Minimum of six months of experience in a maintenance field or related experience or training
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather
  • Ability to operate various small power tools
  • Ability to follow proper safety protocol and pay strict attention to safety at all times
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to enter service requests using a mobile device
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally and tactfully with City employees and members of the public
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and make sound decisions
