Job Description

The Commodity Trader is a key member of the American Iron & Metal team, responsible for buying and selling scrap metal commodities based on market predictions. With a working knowledge of the latest market trends, the commodity trader accurately assesses the value of different types of metal.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Market Analysis: Track the domestic and international markets to support advantageous outcomes of the purchasing and selling of commodities.
  • Collaboration: Work with internal trading teams to produce competitive pricing for clients.
  • Material Identification: Accurately identify various types of metals such as copper, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, and iron.
  • Purchasing and Sourcing: Responsible for purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal from outside sources, such as scrap yards, to sell directly to clients.
  • Business Development: Investigate new potential sources of consumers of scrap metal and build relationships with clients to understand their specific needs and requirements.
  • Negotiation and Communication: Negotiate with suppliers on price, payment, and shipment terms and contracts to optimize cost-effectiveness and maintain frequent communications with suppliers for updated lead time and inventory info for proper planning.
  • Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of relevant activities.
Requirements:
  • Market Knowledge: Must have working knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals.
  • Sales and Communication Skills: Must have strong sales skills and strive to develop long-term customer relationships, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, telephone etiquette, and computer knowledge.
  • Organizational Skills: Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, with a strong motivation and resourcefulness, and be self-motivated.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Travel and Flexibility: Willing to work different shifts and travel up to 50% of the time.
