Position Title: Systems Engineer

Salary Range: $140k-$160k/Annual

Employment Type: Direct Hire

POSITION SUMMARY:

The role involves the creation of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), detailing comprehensive process flows that encompass all equipment, piping elements, block valves, and specifics of installed instrument control and safety apparatus, alongside other design particulars aimed at reducing equipment expenses while enhancing process efficiencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supply vital information throughout the various phases of proposals, engineering, and fabrication to the estimating and project teams concerning all facets of Systems Engineering.

2. Formulate proposal and project-specific specifications for the development of P&IDs and oversee the installation of the project P&ID database, including numbering, tagging, graphical symbols, etc.

3. Assist the sales team (when necessary) in discussions of technical specifics with the Business Development team and/or clients.

4. Create and revise P&IDs for the entire facility for proposals during project execution, which includes:

a. Line sizes for all lines depicted on the P&IDs

  • b. Hydraulic calculations for all lines, including pump NPSH and thermosiphon reboilers
  • c. Line lists, including testing of piping
  • d. Logic diagrams and cause & effect charts for the facility
  • e. Alarm & Setpoint List
  • f. Process data sheets for utility equipment

g. Process requirements for all instruments

5. Develop Operating Manuals, Operator Training Presentations, and Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning Plans.

6. Evaluate and provide feedback on packaged equipment P&IDs, including vendor logic diagrams and cause & effect charts.

7. Assess equipment drawings concerning process-relevant aspects.

8. Engage in model reviews of the plant.

9. Offer technical guidance and expertise to Project Engineering/manufacturing for ongoing work.

10. Design and size control and safety relief valves.

11. Occasionally participate in HAZOP meetings.

12. Aid in start-up, commissioning, and performance testing as needed.

13. Conduct field troubleshooting as required.

14. Maintain periodic customer contact, with less than 25% travel involved.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· A Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Petroleum, or Mechanical Engineering is required; a master's degree is preferred but not mandatory.

· A minimum of 5 years of experience in the energy sector; at least 3 years in process plants is preferred but not essential.

· Strong technical proficiency with process simulation software such as ProMax, HYSYS, Symmetry, etc., along with advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

· Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines is essential.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a detail-oriented approach while remaining innovative and creative.

· Proficient in effectively communicating process concepts to both internal and external stakeholders.

· A Registered Professional Engineer license is preferred but not required.

· Experience in project engineering or operations is preferred but not required.

· Field experience and familiarity with ISO 9000 environments are preferred but not required.
