About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lithium Pilot Plant Operations Manager to join our team at Compass Minerals Intl Inc. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for directing the operation and scale-up of processes, instruments, and equipment from the pilot plant through to full-scale operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations are in compliance
  • Manage the development, implementation, and maintenance of process methods and equipment for the production of process formulas, technologies, and products to achieve cost effectiveness and maximize product quality
  • Plan and implement the development of new process formulas, establish operating equipment specifications, and develop and implement production tracking or quality control systems
  • Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures or safety rules
  • Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Work on problems of moderate scope in which analysis of situation or data requires review of identifiable factors
Team Building and Communication
  • Select, train, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the process and equipment
  • Manage workforce schedule/roster
  • Investigate accidents or injuries and prepare reports of findings and incorporate lessons learned into trainings and team discussions
  • Act as liaison between laboratory, engineering, and operations personnel to ensure all designs, changes, recommendations are feasible and successful
  • Able to understand business implications of pilot plant operations and to communicate effectively to upper management
Qualifications
  • Proven track record of leading and managing teams
  • Tested execution skills, capable of getting things done even under high pressure
  • Strong QA/QC background preferred
  • Prior project management experience preferred
  • Experience working with external technical partners a bonus
  • Experience with analytical test methods such as XRD, ICP-OES/MS, DSC, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy, BET surface area, or particle size analysis preferred
Technical Skills
  • Familiar with control systems and statistical analysis
  • Understanding of chemistry; i.e., understanding of pH levels and chemical reactions
  • Ability to read and understand manuals and maintain proper records
  • Solid understanding of scientific techniques/evaluation/selection/application
  • Strong computer abilities including the suite of Microsoft products
  • Strong supervisory skills to manage 2-3 shifts of operators and an external technical partner
  • Hydrometallurgy experience or Ion Exchange experience a bonus
  • DLE experience a bonus
  • Knowledge of sustainability development a bonus
