The starting rate for this position is $33.25 (BSN: $34.75). Starting rate may be increased commensurate with previous nursing experience.

Job Description">

This position will work day/evening rotation, with 8 and 12-hour shifts on the Integrated Health and Aging unit (IHAP 12th Floor) at our Oakland location.

We are seeking a dedicated Psychiatric Nurse to support this program, which serves older adults experiencing psychiatric issues in late life, often complicated by physical, social, and environmental problems.

The incumbent must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent, mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring, and pushing and pulling equipment such as wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds.

Responsibilities">
  • Performs a nursing assessment and initial plan of care within 8 hours of patient admission.
  • Orients/educates patient regarding hospitalization.
  • Documents in the medical record according to established policies.
  • Maintains current knowledge of medication policies and practices, including side effects, dosage, and patient response.
  • Completes medication administration safely and accurately, including transcription, administration, and documentation according to established policies.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of DSM IV diagnosis as evidenced by individual, group, and milieu therapeutic interventions.
  • Manages crisis situations effectively using positive approaches.
Required Skills and Qualifications">

The ideal candidate will have six months of experience in Clinical Psychiatry and completion of central and unit-specific orientation programs, including the medication proficiency examination.

Candidates must hold a graduate degree in nursing, preferably a BSN, and be licensed as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania or eligible for licensure under the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact.

Acknowledgement of Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting, Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI Clearance is also required.
