Position Summary
The Financial Aid division is comprised of a dedicated team of Financial Aid Consultants nationwide who engage with prospective and current students regularly. Our specialists act as the primary resource for guiding students and their families through the intricate landscape of financial assistance. This team plays a vital role in helping students comprehend and secure the funding necessary for their educational pursuits.
As a Financial Assistance Advisor, your main duty will be to empower students to make educated choices regarding their financing options, leveraging your knowledge of financial aid programs, scholarships, grants, and loans. You will collaborate closely with Admissions, Student Success, and other internal departments.
This role reports directly to the Financial Aid Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer guidance and support to students and their families throughout the financial aid journey. Address inquiries, resolve issues, and provide insights on available financial assistance resources.
- Assist students in completing financial aid applications, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other pertinent forms. Ensure applications are accurate, complete, and eligible.
- Analyze students' financial situations to assess their eligibility for various financial aid programs. Evaluate income, assets, and other relevant factors to calculate the expected family contribution (EFC) and determine the necessity for aid.
- Stay informed about federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies governing financial aid programs. Ensure compliance with these guidelines throughout the assistance process.
- Work in partnership with other campus departments to organize workshops, seminars, and informational sessions aimed at educating students, families, and staff about financial aid options, policies, and procedures.
- A minimum of 2 years of direct experience in the financial aid sector within a higher education environment.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., finance, accounting, or education). Relevant certifications or professional development in financial aid administration are preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of federal and state financial aid programs, policies, and regulations, including FAFSA and Title IV regulations.
- Strong analytical skills to accurately evaluate financial need and eligibility criteria.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to convey clear and concise information to diverse audiences.
- Detail-oriented with the capability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with financial aid management software and databases.
- Commitment to ethical and professional conduct, ensuring the confidentiality and privacy of student information.
