Lead Mechanical Engineer for Facilities
As a Lead Mechanical Engineer for Facilities, you will engage in comprehensive engineering tasks that encompass the assessment of engineering options, data analysis, calculations, CAD drafting, and the creation of specifications and reports essential for the design, development, construction, and commissioning of mechanical, refrigeration, and process (MRP) components necessary for HVAC testing facilities.
Key ResponsibilitiesThis role requires collaboration with engineers, suppliers, and various departments to ensure successful project execution. Your project involvement will include MRP systems designed to replicate specific and extreme environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, precipitation (including rain, snow, ice, fog, and salt), airflow, liquid flow, and high-pressure vapor flow.
How You Will Achieve This• Develop initial designs and cost projections for MRP project components during budgeting and early project stages.
• Gather, analyze, and interpret data, while also creating engineering software applications (e.g., Excel, EES, LabView) and designing fundamental process systems, subsystems, and components.
• Finalize designs that include detailed drawings, requests for quotes (RFQs), bills of materials (BOMs), and construction specifications. Address contractor and engineering inquiries effectively.
• Collaborate with electrical, controls, and other engineering disciplines to deliver cutting-edge designs for comprehensive HVAC testing facility projects.
• Create refrigeration and process system designs, and develop piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for projects that simulate precise and extreme environmental conditions.
• Review project designs to ensure compliance with relevant national and local codes, engineering principles, industry best practices, and company standards.
• Plan and execute on-site startup, troubleshooting, adjustments, testing, and commissioning of MRP systems for all testing facility projects.
• Facilitate all aspects of capital planning and execution.
• Adhere to JCI's safety, quality, confidentiality, and ethics policies, including completing required online training modules with self-certification.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications• Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution; a master's degree or PE registration is preferred.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering design within the HVAC sector; or 6 years of experience post-MSME degree or PE license.
• Proficient understanding of applicable industry codes and standards, including ASHRAE, AHRI, UL, AMCA, ASME, ANSI, SMACNA, UBC (ICC), and others.
• Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Windows environment, including email and Microsoft Office applications; experience with AutoCAD or equivalent engineering documentation tools.
• Ability to work independently on detailed tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
