Primary Objective
The role involves delivering comprehensive engineering design solutions for substation facilities, ensuring timely construction while adhering to resource commitments. The position also includes providing leadership, mentorship, and guidance to team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop cost-effective, technically sound, and reliable designs for substation infrastructure with minimal oversight.
- Ensure quality assurance on assigned projects by offering construction support, including coordination with construction teams and conducting site inspections.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration with various departments to maintain project timelines and budgetary constraints.
- Assist other departments in resolving unique substation design challenges.
- Monitor project budgets and implement cost control measures to meet financial commitments.
- Provide precise cost estimates for budgeting purposes to identify cash flow needs.
- Contribute to the creation of detailed project timelines and update project management systems to reflect current project statuses.
- Adhere to compliance standards relevant to the position, ensuring familiarity with all applicable policies, codes, and regulations.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience
A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution, coupled with a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience as a practicing engineer. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required; candidates without a PE must possess at least 8 years of engineering experience.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Proficient understanding of:
- Relay protection, wiring and control systems, along with knowledge of various aspects of substation engineering.
- Cost management, budgeting, finance, and accounting, with practical experience in cost analysis.
Essential skills include:
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication abilities with colleagues, clients, and regulatory bodies.
- Competence in multitasking, leadership, research, analysis, project management, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Tools and Technology
Proficient in using PCs, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based, with some fieldwork required for supervision purposes.
