About the Opportunity

The Colorado Judicial Branch is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as an Inclusive Attorney Fellowship. This unique opportunity is designed to support the development of a private law practice in Colorado, with a focus on public defense and criminal justice reform.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a private law practice with a focus on public defense and criminal justice reform
  • Provide zealous and client-centered advocacy for indigent individuals
  • Collaborate with the Office of the Alternate Defense Counsel (OADC) team to achieve the organization's mission and goals
  • Participate in training and professional development programs to enhance skills and knowledge in public defense and criminal justice reform
Requirements
  • Must have lived experiences as a Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) community member or be a person with meaningful connections to BIPOC communities
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of criminal defense and public defense systems, criminal law and procedure, and rules of evidence
  • Must be self-motivated and a problem solver
  • Must be an entrepreneur who can support their community with their vision and expertise
  • Must be collaborative and passionate about team-oriented holistic public defense
  • Must be zealous in their commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and empathy
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 to 5 years' experience representing human beings as an attorney and/or in a qualified law school clinic or internship/externship setting, and/or under the student practice act(s)
  • Some prior experience in a business setting, preferably self-employed
