The Denver District Attorney's Office is dedicated to thoroughly prosecuting crimes and investigating potential offenses on behalf of the citizens of Colorado. Our mission is to deliver justice, advocate for victims' rights, and provide guidance in crime deterrence and prevention. The office consists of approximately 120 attorneys and 180 support personnel, managing over 6,000 felony and 8,000 misdemeanor prosecutions each year. The elected District Attorney serves as the chief law enforcement officer in the City and County of Denver, overseeing the prosecution of violations of Colorado State Laws.
Key Responsibilities
This position necessitates certification as a Colorado Peace Officer (POST) and a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Please refrain from applying if you do not hold these certifications.
The duties associated with this role include:
- Identifying and interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects
- Conducting investigations and supporting the prosecution of criminal cases
- Determining investigative methods and case strategies; collecting, assessing, and safeguarding evidence; analyzing data, and preparing visual aids for complex information
- Drafting investigative reports with recommendations for case management
- Collaborating with law enforcement personnel and relevant City agencies to develop case strategies
- Preparing legal documents such as affidavits for arrest warrants, search warrants, and subpoenas; serving involved parties, and potentially drafting interrogatories and responses in civil cases
- Providing testimony in Grand Jury proceedings and/or court as an advisory witness
- Performing other assigned tasks as necessary
What You Bring
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in conducting thorough investigations of intricate criminal and civil cases

- Experience: Four (4) years of law enforcement experience, with at least two (2) years at the level of Criminal Investigator (e.g., Police Detective) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of relevant experience may substitute for each required year of post-secondary education. Additional relevant education may replace minimum experience requirements.
- Licenses/Certifications: A valid Driver's License and certification as a Colorado Peace Officer (POST) at the time of application. All licenses and certifications must remain current as a condition of employment.
