Job Summary

This position plays a crucial role in creating a learning environment that inspires success and responsibility. The ideal candidate will effectively interface with all Carroll Independent School District personnel and community members, directing and managing maintenance, grounds, and custodial operations. The goal is to maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence, ensuring the full educational use of facilities at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage custodial, maintenance, and repair operations, as well as security and central warehouse operations.
  • Receive and process work orders for repair and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Develop and maintain written departmental procedures for maintenance, repair, operations, and security of all district buildings and equipment.
  • Coordinate the preparation of plans and specifications for contracted repair work, site improvement, and new construction, including the complete bid process.
  • Implement federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and local board policies in the maintenance area.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required in the maintenance area.
  • Prepare data necessary for maintenance payroll.
  • Plan and administer the maintenance budget, ensuring that programs are cost-effective and funds are managed prudently.
  • Project manage mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and construction activities, including retrofits and new construction.
  • Plan and direct inventory and stock control programs for equipment and supplies.
  • Assign work to maintenance personnel and oversee completion.
  • Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions in the maintenance department.
  • Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise maintenance personnel, making sound recommendations about personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal.
  • Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety.
  • Attend professional growth activities to stay up-to-date on innovative techniques in maintenance operations.
  • Ensure that equipment is maintained in operating and optimum condition.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Clear and valid Texas driver's license
  • Knowledge of basic principles of construction, school plant maintenance, and custodial operations
  • Ability to conduct on-site inspections of district facilities
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate a district-assigned vehicle
  • 3 years of supervisory experience in maintenance operations
  • 5 years of experience in maintaining a large plant or building, preferred
