Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Road Maintenance Technician to join our team at Whatcom County, WA. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and maintenance of our roadways and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide traffic control and sign placement to ensure public safety in work zones.
  • Dig ditches, rake asphalt, patch potholes, clear brush, and operate chainsaws as needed.
  • Participate in emergency response efforts during severe weather events, such as snow and floods.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and machinery, including dump trucks, power sweepers, and mowers.
Requirements
  • Two years of recent work experience in construction, road maintenance, logging, landscaping, traffic control, vehicle and equipment maintenance, or a related field.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment.
  • Washington State Flagging and Traffic Control Card.
  • Ability to work overtime or shift extensions during peak workloads, emergencies, and critical conditions.
  • Willingness to obtain an Enhanced Driver's License or Passport and maintain throughout employment.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods, work in all types of weather, and frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
