Health Information Management Specialist

About the Role:
The Trauma Registrar and Data Analyst will play a critical role in the collection and analysis of trauma data at Kings County Hospital Center. This position will be responsible for abstracting required state and national trauma data elements from the patient chart in real-time and retrospectively, ensuring the accuracy of data collection and timely submission of data according to the State Trauma Registry and the American College of Surgeons Optimal Resource Document for Trauma Centers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and analyze trauma data from patient charts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of submission to state and national databases.
- Interpret data and prepare reports for performance improvement, support of related programs, administrative planning, and marketing.
- Participate in local, state, and national meetings and conferences, representing the hospital and contributing to the development of trauma care standards.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the Trauma Program Manager and other stakeholders to ensure data quality and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
- Possession of a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential from AHIMA and two (2) years of satisfactory experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care organization, of which one (1) year has been in a supervisory and/or administrative capacity; or
- Possession of a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential from AHIMA and four (4) years of satisfactory experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care organization, of which two (2) years have been in a supervisory and/or administrative capacity; or
- Possession of a valid certificate as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from AHIMA and six (6) years of satisfactory experience in coding and abstracting medical records in a recognized hospital or health care organization, of which three (3) years have been in a supervisory and/or administrative capacity; or
- A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.
