Health Information Management Data Integrity Specialist

Job Summary:
This Health Information Management Data Integrity Specialist role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of health information in electronic medical records and other source systems. The successful candidate will have a strong analytical mindset and excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with clinical staff, revenue management, and information technology departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Resolves potential duplicate medical records and chart corrections to maximize the quality of care.
- Coordinates and communicates with clinical staff, revenue management, and information technology departments to facilitate chart corrections.
- Analyzes and identifies root causes of data discrepancies.
- Batches documents in proper order using document types and tracking dates.
- Uses judgment when documents received from outside organizations are over the allowable scanning limit.
- Communicates with providers and office personnel for proper documentation and verification.
- Indexes each medical record document appropriately using defined data elements.
- Reviews and determines proper alignment, readability, and correct number of documents have been scanned.
- Performs quality checks on scanned medical record documents and reviews accuracy and error resolution prior to submission to EMR.
- Provides appropriate validation of requested corrections to the medical record.
- Verifies correct patient, account, and proper document type.
- Determines any corrections that are needed, including proper rearrangement and relocation of incorrectly filed documents and replacement of documents deemed to be of unacceptable quality.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 2 years or more experience in Health Information Management or Revenue Cycle setting preferred.
- Ability to analyze complex information and use problem-solving skills to determine appropriate solutions and necessary merges to protect the integrity of the EMPI.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills, strong customer service skills.
- Ability to be flexible, adapt well to change, and work as part of the team as well as independently with minimal supervision.
- Must work well under pressure.
Physical Demands Analysis:
This role requires prolonged standing or sitting, bending, stooping, or stretching. May require lifting up to 20 pounds. Requires the ability to distinguish letters or symbols. Requires the use of office equipment such as computers, telephones, or copiers. Requires normal vision and the absence of color-blindness. Constant and complex, ingenuity and judgment are required to plan work, deal with factors not easily evaluated. Interpret results, draw conclusions, and take or recommend action.
