The YMCA of Greater Boston seeks a dedicated ESOL instructor to lead beginner-level classes in a supportive and inclusive environment. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the educational growth of adult learners from diverse backgrounds.

Job Overview

This part-time, hourly position involves delivering high-quality instruction to adults with varying linguistic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds. The successful candidate will design engaging lesson plans that integrate language and life skills, fostering an active participation and language practice atmosphere.

We are looking for an experienced educator who can present clear language objectives, conduct regular assessments, and maintain accurate attendance records. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach beginner-level ESOL to adults from varied linguistic, cultural, religious, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Design and deliver engaging, contextually relevant lesson plans that integrate both language and life skills.
  • Foster an inclusive and safe classroom atmosphere that supports active participation and language practice.
  • Present clear language and content objectives for each session.
  • Regularly conduct formative and summative assessments to monitor and report on students' progress.
  • Communicate any classroom or student concerns to the Program Director promptly.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and submit them on time.
  • Upload course materials (e.g., handouts, slides) to Google Classroom for student access.
Requirements

We require a Bachelor's degree and TESOL, TEFL, or TESL certification. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Classroom, and Zoom is also necessary. Authorization to live and work in the U.S. is required. A strong understanding of and sensitivity to socio-economic and ethnic minority issues is essential. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills are must-haves.

Bilingual candidates (Spanish, Haitian Creole, French) are highly valued. We also welcome educators who are eager to engage in paid professional development activities.

Estimated Salary Range:$35,000 - $45,000 per year
