MRI Technologist II

We are seeking a highly skilled MRI Technologist II to join our team at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing MRI procedures, applying principles of magnetic resonance safety, and selecting appropriate pulse sequences to ensure high-quality images.
Key Responsibilities- Perform MRI procedures, including diagnostic and therapeutic imaging, in accordance with established protocols and safety standards.
- Apply principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patients, self, and others.
- Select appropriate pulse sequences, considering established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition.
- Determine and/or follow appropriate imaging protocols, ensuring accurate and efficient imaging procedures.
- Document pertinent exam information in the medical record, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
- Maintain archival storage of imaging exams and associated documents, adhering to regulatory standards and institutional policies.
- Assist licensed independent practitioners with specialized interventional MRI procedures, applying aseptic surgical technique as needed.
- Maintain records, respecting confidentiality and established policy, and apply principles of patient safety during all aspects of MRI procedures.
- Verify informed consent, assuming responsibility for patient needs before, during, and after procedures.
- Prepare patients for procedures, applying principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others.
- Perform venipuncture and start and maintain intravenous access per procedural protocol, based on imaging orders from licensed independent practitioners.
- Identify, prepare, and administer medications associated with diagnostic imaging procedures, as prescribed by licensed independent practitioners.
- Evaluate images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded.
- Identify and escalate emergency situations, managing until appropriate licensed independent practitioners, EMS, MERT, RRT, or Code Team arrives to assume control.
- Provide patient education related to imaging procedures, educating, mentoring, and general oversight of students and other learners in the Radiology environment.
- Participate in and/or perform ongoing quality assurance activities, ensuring high-quality imaging procedures and patient care.
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) or Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB)
- Current Certification by ARRT-MRI
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
- One (1) year of previous MRI Technologist work experience
- Preferred experience: One to three (1-3) years of previous MRI Technologist work experience, previous work experience in an academic medical center environment
- Education/training: Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology that is recognized by the ARRT; or Graduation from a JRCNMT accredited program in nuclear medicine technology
- Preferred education/training: Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology or closely related field from an accredited program
