About the Role
We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Care Technician to assist with direct and indirect patient care activities. This includes taking and recording vital signs, assisting with admission, transfer, and discharge processes, and maintaining a safe and clean environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Direct Patient Care Activities:
- Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
- Take and record temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, height, and blood pressure.
- Measure and record intake and output, including output from drains.
- Apply cardiac monitor/oximetry and obtain EKG readings.
- Obtain capillary blood glucose readings and perform phlebotomy as needed.
- Apply fetal monitor equipment on pregnant patients and discontinue heplocks and foley catheters.
- Administer enemas, collect specimens, and make rounds of patients to anticipate their needs.
- Respond to patient call lights in a timely manner, especially emergency lights.
- Distribute fresh drinking water and nourishments to patients and prepare them for meals as needed.
- Provide morning care, bed baths, and evening care according to established nursing care procedures.
- Participate in post-mortem care and transport bodies to the morgue when necessary.
- Indirect Patient Care:
- Maintain a safe and clean environment by performing duties such as straightening linen, cleaning utility rooms, and restocking supplies.
- Collect and inventory patient belongings on admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Complete charges using appropriate documentation and order supplies online or through requisitions.
- Ensure room readiness for incoming patients and check designated equipment for proper functioning.
- Count instruments and sterile trays sent and received from SEP as appropriate for assigned unit.
- Stock and remove linen from patient rooms and participate in staff meetings.
Requirements
- CNA certification or current enrollment in SON with successful completion of basic clinical rotations.
- American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
- Minimum 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes.
- Unit-based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring.
- High school diploma required; one year of college or nursing education preferred.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred, with demonstrated ability to relate to patients, family, nursing, and medical staff.
- Physical demands include lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds and push/pull force up to 50 pounds.
Estimated Salary Range:$55,000 - $65,000 per year
