Patient Care Technician

We are seeking a skilled Patient Care Technician to join our Neurosciences Unit team at Northwestern Medicine. This part-time, day-shift role requires the ability to work 32 hours per week, with four 8-hour shifts and alternating weekends.

The Patient Care Technician will assist and support Professional Registered Nurses in all aspects of direct and indirect patient care activities. They will function as a member of the unit staff under the direction and supervision of the professional Registered Nurse.

• Direct Patient Care Activities:
  • Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge process.
  • Takes and records temperature, pulse, respirations, weight for adults and/or neonates, height, and blood pressure.
  • Measures and records intake and output including output from drains.
  • Applies cardiac monitor/oximetry.
  • Obtains EKG.
  • Adheres to infant security protocol (accurate assessment of band placement).
  • Performs normal newborn hearing screening.
  • Obtains capillary blood glucose for adults and/or neonates.
  • Performs phlebotomy.
  • Applies Fetal Monitor equipment on pregnant patients.
  • Discontinues heplocks and foley catheters. Administers enemas.
  • Collectionspecimens(urine,stool,bloodandsputum)onadultsand/orneonates.Makeroundsofpatientsandanticipatetheirneedsandobservesnewbornsinthenursery.
  • Respondstopatientcalllightsintimemanner,especiallyemergencylights.
