Job Summary

Riverside Health System is seeking a highly skilled Inpatient Coder II to join our team. As a key member of our clinical documentation improvement team, you will be responsible for analyzing medical records to assign accurate diagnoses and procedure codes, ensuring optimal reimbursement and compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assign ICD-10-CM and PCS codes to create diagnosis-related group (DRG) assignments, abstracting pertinent information from patient records and sequencing diagnoses and procedures using coding guidelines.
  • Communicate with CDI team on mismatches, including DRG, principal diagnosis selection, complications or comorbidities, and severity of illness and risk of mortality.
  • Query physicians when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes.
  • Maintain four-day turnaround times for inpatient coding based on discharge date and total charges, while meeting productivity standards.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet departmental monthly goals, including DNFB, denials, and claim edits.
  • Participate in ongoing coding educational webinars and reviews of individually audited cases by third-party companies and/or internal audits.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • 3-4 years active inpatient coding experience (acute care) (required)
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or equivalent certification (required)
