About the Role

The University of Arizona is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its Athletics Department. As a strategic partner to the Athletic Director and executive leadership team, the CFO will be responsible for the financial stewardship and fiscal health of the athletics department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the athletic department's goals and objectives
  • Manage the development of the annual operating and capital budgets
  • Monitor and manage budget performance, providing regular updates to the Athletic Director and other stakeholders
  • Develop long-term financial forecasts and models to support strategic planning initiatives
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
  • Optimize financial performance through effective cost management and operational efficiencies
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team
  • Serve as a liaison to university financial leadership and other key stakeholders
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience
  • Minimum of 9 years of related work experience, including 5 years of managerial experience
  • Experience leading a team, project, program, or function
  • Strong knowledge of financial principles, practices, and regulations, including NCAA compliance
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • High ethical standards and integrity
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ten years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in collegiate athletics or a similar environment
  • MBA or CPA preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis
