The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is dedicated to providing safe and affordable housing along with supportive services to enhance the dignity and independence of individuals. Our organization focuses on developing and managing housing for low-income seniors, many of whom face challenges such as mental illness or have experienced homelessness. Position Summary
The handyman will be responsible for executing a range of maintenance, repair, and cleaning tasks to ensure a secure and hygienic environment for the residents of WSFSSH, promoting their ability to live independently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and Repairs:
    Assist the supervisor or as instructed in preparing vacant units for new residents.
  • Support in painting and minor repairs as directed.
  • Contribute to special projects, such as floor maintenance, as needed.
  • Assist with plumbing and electrical repairs as instructed.

Dress Code:
The handyman is expected to wear the designated uniform and adhere to the dress code policy, maintaining a professional appearance at all times.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate as part of a team to uphold a high standard of care and communication with residents.
  • Work harmoniously with fellow staff members.
  • Share relevant information regarding resident needs and progress in accordance with WSFSSH's confidentiality policies.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance job skills.
  • Implement emergency protocols as necessary.
  • Complete and submit all required reports promptly.
  • Assist with additional tasks as directed.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: At least 1 year of experience working with dependent individuals.
  • Preferred: Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a handyman.
  • Preferred: Strong skills and experience in maintenance tasks.
  • Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Able to work effectively in a diverse and multicultural environment.
  • Capable of fulfilling job responsibilities.
