Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Examiner Technician to join our team at the Internal Revenue Service. As a Tax Examiner Technician, you will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing internal documents and taxpayer returns, preparing coded entries to amend and complete records, and referring questionable returns and documents to appropriate areas to determine corrective action.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviews and analyzes internal documents and/or taxpayer returns to identify discrepancies and errors.
  • Prepares coded entries to amend and complete records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Refers questionable returns and documents to appropriate areas to determine corrective action, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Processes individual or small business returns and cases that involve relationships among different accounts that span more than a single tax period.
  • Assigns Employee Identification Numbers (EIN) and temporary Social Security Numbers (SSN) as needed.
  • Requests and interprets taxpayer information, perfecting documents and initiating research to correct missing or inaccurate account information.
  • Compiles and maintains functional and/or assigned area records or reports to provide status of work.
  • May serve as a technical advisor, on-the-job (OJT) coach, classroom instructor, or reviewer to provide technical assistance on systemic problems and inconsistencies in the Internal Revenue Manuals (IRM).
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Must have at least one (1) year of general experience equal to the next lower grade (GS-03) in the Federal government, or two (2) years of education above the high school level.
  • Must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the Federal government, or completed four (4) years above high school in any field.
Working Conditions

This is a bargaining unit position. The tour of duty is Monday - Friday, Day Shift, with start and stop times between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Alternative work schedule, staggered work hours, or telework may be available.
