Sleep Study Technologist

- GENERAL OVERVIEW
- The Sleep Technician operates under the guidance of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and the clinical Director or their delegate to conduct thorough polysomnographic assessments, treatment, care, and education related to sleep disorders. This role reports to the assigned Manager/Director.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures accountability and quality in all aspects of Polysomnographic testing, adhering to the standards set by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and departmental protocols.
- Administers various polysomnographic procedures for patients of all ages, in compliance with established regulations and guidelines.
- Facilitates education for patients and their families regarding sleep health.
- Operates and maintains technical equipment effectively.
- Contributes to performance enhancement, billing processes, and the development of protocols related to polysomnography.
- Supports the training and mentorship of students and new staff.
- Performs additional tasks as required.
- CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
- Completion of an accredited polysomnography training program or possession of a relevant healthcare credential that qualifies for the RPSGT examination is mandatory.
- Registry eligibility in polysomnography is preferred.
- Must achieve Registered Technologist (RPSGT, RST) status within a specified timeframe upon employment.
- EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Familiarity with Polysomnographic techniques, equipment operation, and maintenance typically acquired through an educational program in polysomnography is preferred.
- Ability to work independently is essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Analytical skills are required to identify pathologies based on physiological understanding and clinical practices.
- Willingness to travel locally may be necessary.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts is expected.
- CPR certification is required or must be obtained shortly after hiring.
- WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in a patient care setting with limited exposure to environmental hazards, including noise, dust, or temperature extremes. There may be exposure to infectious diseases and challenging working conditions due to the nature of patient care tasks.
