  • OVERVIEW
    • The Sleep Technician operates under the guidance of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and the clinical Director or their representative to conduct thorough polysomnographic assessments, treatment, care, and education regarding sleep-related issues. Reports to the assigned Manager/Director.
  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Ensures accountability and quality in all aspects of Polysomnographic procedures, adhering to the standards set by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and departmental protocols.
    • Administers various polysomnographic assessments for patients of all ages, following established guidelines and regulations.
    • Facilitates education for patients and their families regarding sleep health.
    • Proficiently operates necessary equipment.
    • Contributes to quality improvement initiatives, billing processes, and the development of polysomnography protocols.
    • Assists in the training and mentorship of students and trainees.
    • Performs additional duties as required.
  • CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
    • Completion of a polysomnography educational program or current certification in a relevant healthcare field that qualifies for the RPSGT examination is required.
    • Registry eligibility in polysomnography is preferred.
    • Must achieve Registered Technologist (RPSGT, RST) status within 18 months of employment.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    • Familiarity with Polysomnographic techniques, equipment operation, and maintenance typically acquired through a polysomnography educational program is preferred.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
    • Analytical skills to identify pathologies based on physiological knowledge and clinical practices.
    • Willingness to travel locally as needed.
    • Availability for rotating shifts may be necessary.
    • CPR certification is required or must be obtained shortly after hiring.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT
    • Expected to operate in a patient care setting with limited exposure to environmental hazards, including noise, dust, or temperature extremes. There may be exposure to communicable diseases and challenging working conditions due to the nature of patient care activities.
