Role Overview

The Acceptance Solutions Product Development team is tasked with engineering a suite of products that enhance Visa's revenue streams, set our network apart, and provide value-added solutions across various channels. This initiative aims to elevate total merchant value by crafting solutions that meet the intricate and evolving demands of merchants and acquirers. Our objective is to lead the future of payment acceptance, assisting our clients in navigating the complexities of digital commerce while ensuring flexibility and responsiveness.

The Visa Acceptance Platform aspires to be the premier open payment platform, delivering market-leading, globally relevant, omnichannel acceptance components through open, composable, modular APIs that exemplify Visa-grade resilience, security, maintenance, and scalability.

We are in search of a seasoned Senior Principal Software Engineer to spearhead a team of talented engineers in the design and development of a tier 0 distributed payment platform capable of processing transactions at scale with minimal downtime. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of microservices architecture and real-time data processing systems, with experience in technologies such as Spring, Vertx, Kafka, RDBMS, Kubernetes, and Jenkins. Furthermore, proficiency in Test-Driven Development utilizing GenAI and Copilot, along with a commitment to security best practices, is essential. We seek a visionary leader who can think expansively, challenge conventional approaches, and innovate the future of payments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and troubleshoot applications utilizing Java and Vertx event-driven architecture.
  • Lead the architecture and implementation of scalable, distributed systems.
  • Implement microservices architecture leveraging Spring and Vertx.
  • Construct and manage data pipelines using Kafka.
  • Optimize database operations and performance with RDBMS.
  • Deploy and oversee applications on Kubernetes.
  • Establish CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins.
  • Adopt Test-Driven Development practices using GenAI and Copilot.
  • Act as a Security Champion, ensuring secure development and operational practices.
  • Facilitate code reviews and uphold software development best practices.
  • Promote accountability and learning from mistakes within the team.
  • Encourage constructive discussions and support team success.

This position operates in a hybrid model, allowing for a blend of remote and in-office work. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to be in the office 2-3 predetermined days each week, based on leadership guidance and business requirements.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 10+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's Degree, or at least 7 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD), or 4 years of experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 12+ years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree, or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree, or 6+ years of experience with a PhD.

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, with 8-10 years of experience in Software Engineering.

• Extensive experience in software engineering, particularly in distributed systems.

• Strong proficiency in Spring, Vertx, Kafka, RDBMS, Kubernetes, and Jenkins.

• Experience with Test-Driven Development using GenAI and Copilot.

• Proven ability to serve as a Security Champion.

• Strong leadership capabilities, with a track record of innovative thinking and challenging the status quo.

• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

• Capacity to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies based on departmental needs.

Travel Requirements: This position may require travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This role will be performed in an office environment, requiring the ability to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and via telephone, and frequently operate standard office equipment such as computers and telephones.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for this position is between 147,400.00 and 213,800.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments. Salary may vary based on job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
