Lead Heavy Equipment Technician

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly competent and seasoned Lead Heavy Equipment Technician to become an integral part of our team. This position is pivotal in managing the upkeep and repair of our extensive range of construction vehicles and machinery. The role encompasses both supervisory responsibilities—organizing, delegating, and managing tasks—and hands-on mechanical work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise, mentor, and provide daily support to a team of 2-4 mechanics.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues with construction vehicles and equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and trucks.
- Ensure that routine maintenance and repairs are executed on all company vehicles and machinery.
- Develop and enforce preventative maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and prolong equipment lifespan.
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations and company policies in all work performed.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair activities.
- Manage inventory of parts and supplies effectively.
- Collaborate with the Shop Manager and other staff to coordinate maintenance and repair efforts.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members.
- Maintain a clean and organized workshop equipped with necessary tools and equipment.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations.
- Handle administrative tasks using digital devices as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; technical degree or certification in automotive or diesel mechanics is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanic, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Extensive knowledge of construction vehicles and heavy machinery.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Proficiency with mechanical tools and equipment.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Valid driver's license; CDL is strongly preferred.
- Physical fitness to lift heavy objects over 50 pounds and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.
