Position Overview
This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding and active engagement in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Medical Center. The Surgical Technician I plays a crucial role in supporting the strategic objectives of Orange Coast Medical Center and is encouraged to participate in performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.
The Surgical Technician I is tasked with providing surgical assistance in a safe, appropriate, and effective manner under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician, adhering to established standards of practice. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring the availability and maintenance of surgical instruments, upholding aseptic techniques, possessing advanced knowledge of surgical procedures, and facilitating patient flow within the department. Effective communication with the surgical team and supervisory personnel is essential, as is participation in documentation processes. The Surgical Technician I collaborates with various professional disciplines to ensure the delivery of safe and effective patient care, aiming for optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of individual and unit for Magnet recognition.
- Meeting population-specific competencies.
- Providing patient care during surgical procedures under the guidance of an RN or Physician.
- Applying aseptic principles knowledgeably to ensure quality patient care.
- Demonstrating proficiency in all surgical procedures and effectively utilizing equipment and supplies during assignments.
- Engaging in continuous development of clinical expertise and staying informed about healthcare trends and education relevant to practice.
- Exhibiting knowledge and skills in job-specific competencies within the operating room.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Placement within the pay range is influenced by various factors, including relevant experience and qualifications. In addition to base compensation, there may be opportunities for additional earnings through shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonuses. Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Preferred minimum of one year of acute care experience.
Proficiency in computer usage, internet navigation, order entry, and word processing is preferred.
Familiarity with medical terminology is essential.
Ability to meet the on-call requirements of the department.
Education/Certification:
Completion of a surgical technology program or military training program is required.
Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support from the American Heart Association is mandatory.
