Fort Worth: Academic Support Specialist for Students

Salary: $60,000 + Commensurate with experience.

Job Function: Under the guidance of the campus principal, the Academic Support Specialist will deliver dyslexia intervention services to students identified as dyslexic, utilizing the district's sanctioned programs and instructional methodologies. The Specialist will assist at-risk students with Tier II and Tier III tailored learning activities and experiences in the designated core academic subjects to help them reach their full potential in intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development.

Duties:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Principal.

- Deliver dyslexia intervention services using the district's endorsed program and instructional methodologies.

- Provide instructional support to at-risk students to ensure mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

- Design and implement suitable instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the diverse learning styles and needs of assigned students.

- Collaborate with fellow staff members to establish instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements that will facilitate student success.

- Utilize technology to enhance the teaching and learning experience.

- Support district and campus initiatives.

- Assist students in evaluating and improving their study techniques and habits.

- Conduct ongoing assessments of student performance through both formal and informal evaluations.

- Take on responsibilities for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor approved external activities.

- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional growth of students.

- Manage student behavior in line with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

- Take all necessary precautions to safeguard students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

- Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional resources.

- Maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and educators.

- Foster a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

- Employ effective communication skills to convey information accurately and clearly.

- Stay informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies applicable to classroom educators.

- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and digital reports, records, and other required documentation.

- Uphold confidentiality.

- Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and special events as necessary.

- Maintain regular on-site attendance.

- Exhibit a positive attitude.

- Serve as a constructive role model for all students.

- Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.

- Ability to address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Maintain emotional control under stress. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom materials.

Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution.

- Valid Texas Teaching Certification.

- Demonstrated proficiency in the core academic subject area assigned.

- Special Education Certification preferred.

- Must possess reliable transportation.

- Two to three years of teaching or tutoring experience.

- Knowledge of core academic subjects.
