About the Role

ARUP Laboratories is seeking a highly skilled Mass Spec Application Engineer I to join our team. As a key member of our clinical laboratory, you will play a critical role in the implementation of improvements and workflow solutions to mass spectroscopy based tests in a fast-paced production clinical laboratory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop skills to serve as a technical advisor for mass spectroscopy assays and instrumentation
  • Gather user requirements and contribute to mass spectroscopy based test improvement and optimization
  • Assist clinical operations or support teams with problem-solving in regards to mass spectroscopy based tests
  • Validate instruments and write technical documents as needed
  • Prepare for and execute instrument installation, operation, and performance qualifications (IQOQPQ)
  • Analyze the impact of version upgrades on existing systems and provide recommendations on a plan of action related to system upgrades
  • Assist project teams in the cost analysis of new projects, support capital acquisition, and provide justification for upgrades and additional equipment
  • Train staff and work with the lab to develop training modules as necessary
  • Track and manage changes in mass spectroscopy based tests and documentation
  • Develop protocols for maintenance and monitoring of instrument performance
  • Effectively communicate project progression and any hurdles with team members and other key stakeholders
  • Develop modifications for current procedures to improve cost and/or labor efficiency
  • Perform literature review to adequately obtain and access all options for assay improvement
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or better in Biological, Chemical, or Scientific Field or related field
  • Preferred: Master's Degree or better in Biological, Chemical, or Scientific Field or related field, PhD or better in Biological, Chemical, or Scientific Field or related field
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in a Chemistry, Biology, Medical Laboratory Scientist or related degree and one year of experience as a Mass Spec Application Specialist 2 or MLS/CT Specialist 2
  • Preferred: Prior experience as a Field Service Engineer, Application Engineer, Mass Spectroscopy R&D or Development Scientist
  • Applicable ASCP or AAB certification preferred
