Job Summary

The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Research Specialist to join our team in the Pathology Department. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for conducting clinical and/or research laboratory experiments, analyzing data, and working independently to manage daily research projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, and present findings to the principal investigator.
  • Develop and implement laboratory protocols, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with laboratory safety and health regulations.
  • Collaborate with students, vendors, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty members to achieve research goals.
  • Train and supervise students, staff members, and postdoctoral fellows in laboratory procedures and techniques.
  • Assist the principal investigator in coordinating research projects, managing laboratory operations, and maintaining laboratory resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Minimum one year of experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
  • Master's degree with related graduate research and laboratory experience may substitute for experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Course work in related areas.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Working Conditions

The Research Specialist will work in a laboratory environment with exposure to toxins and infectious agents. The ability to work independently, under minimal supervision, with strong decision-making skills and good judgment is essential. The position requires prolonged vision, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift and move equipment and supplies.
