Position Summary:

The American Sign Language (ASL) Direct Support Professional plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, welfare, training, and supervision of individuals in their designated work environments during assigned shifts. As a vital member of the treatment planning team, the Direct Support Professional contributes to fostering a structured, consistent, and therapeutic atmosphere. Responsibilities include implementing individualized treatment programs during duty hours, managing crisis situations, and providing emergency CPR and First Aid when necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following points outline the primary responsibilities associated with this role. This list is not exhaustive and may include additional duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), with potential assessments conducted by agency personnel.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of assigned individuals through vigilant supervision and protective oversight during scheduled shifts.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of established protective oversight levels and supervision requirements as outlined in individual care plans.
  • Assist in planning and executing daily activities tailored to meet person-centered choices and identified habilitation and educational needs.
  • Support and carry out specific training activities and tasks for assigned individuals based on their person-centered, habilitation, or educational plans.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED, with at least one year of experience working with children with autism spectrum disorders or other developmental disabilities, either as a service provider or family member.
  • Associate's degree (A.A.) in Human Services, with or without relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) in Psychology or a related field, with or without relevant experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

All employees must possess and maintain a current and valid driver's license.
