OrthoIndy Hospital Northwest is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our physicians and staff.
Job Summary:The Medical Assistant is responsible for managing patient experience from check-in to check-out, ensuring all patient and physician needs are met. This includes escorting patients to the proper location, triaging and assessing patient injuries, and reconciling data upon each visit.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage patient experience from check-in to check-out
- Escort patients to the proper location and keep them informed of any delays
- Oversee daily patient load for assigned physician(s) or clinic(s)
- Triage and assess patient injuries during intake process
- Ensure documentation accuracy and review Health History in Allscripts
- Reconcile data upon each visit
- Prepare daily schedules and review charts prior to patient appointments
- Perform basic orthopedic procedures per instruction
- Coordinate OrthoBiologics injections with Support Services Department
- Document hyaluronic and steroid injections
- Complete injection and sample medications logs
- Order and input patient imaging orders according to standard protocols
- Monitor accuracy and perform safety precautions to minimize errors and overexposure to patients
- Complete lab orders, UDS, and Genetic testing
- Coordinate timely pickup and processing of stat specimens
- Order replacement supplies
- Provide patient education at physician request
- Obtain education materials from library of procedure, injection, and rehab protocols
- Develop and revise provider protocols annually
- Update department leadership with edits and additions
- Stock assigned pod and ensure availability of necessary medical supplies
- Communicate supply shortages to manager
- Follow best-practice protocols, uphold company policies, and notify department leadership of safety concerns
- Adhere to all OSHA and HIPAA standards
- Participate in clinic staff meetings, safety checklists, and reviews
- Perform safety audits as assigned by department leadership
- Attend annual clinic education fair
- Responsible for maintaining active BLS certification and related certification or licensure from one of the approved programs
- Maintain continuing education requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Required
- Specialty training beyond high school (e.g., Vocational School) Preferred
- Related certification from one of the following: American Association of Medical Assistants, Registered Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician must be obtained within 1-year of employment
- BLS certification Preferred
- No prior experience necessary Required; - 2 years of experience Preferred
