Laboratory Animal Care Specialist

At New York Blood Center, we are seeking a skilled Laboratory Animal Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our animal care team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of laboratory animals in our care.
Responsibilities
Provide daily care and maintenance of laboratory animals, including feeding, watering, and cleaning of animal enclosures.
Monitor animal health and report any signs of illness or distress to the Head of LARS.
Administer treatments as prescribed by clinical veterinarians and/or the Head of LARS.
Perform environmental and clean animal rooms daily as assigned.
Observe and report any aberrations in animal room environments.
Change animal caging as scheduled and sanitize animal quarters as assigned.
Provide routine treatment for common disease problems and monitor health status as instructed by supervisor or Veterinarian.
Requirements
High school graduate or equivalency certificate.
3-4 years of experience in a barrier facility or performing duties in a related area.
Purina's Laboratory Animal Certification and AALAS Certification preferred.
Working Conditions
This position requires working in a laboratory animal facility with exposure to animals, chemicals, and biological materials. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
Salary and Benefits
The proposed hiring rate for this position is $24.2105 per hour. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
