Position Overview

The Patient Referral Coordinator is responsible for managing patient appointments for diagnostic tests and specialist consultations as directed by healthcare providers.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Comply with Rome Memorial Hospital's Compliance Plan, Policies and Procedures, as well as HIPAA Privacy and Security standards to ensure high-quality service and protect patient confidentiality.
  • Respond to incoming calls and assist patients with inquiries as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate tracking and documentation of all referrals.
  • Gather relevant information regarding the patient's medical history and referral requirements. Provide necessary clinical details to specialists in accordance with referral protocols.
  • Communicate with insurance providers to verify and secure prior authorizations and approvals. Present essential medical information including patient history, diagnosis, and prognosis.
  • Document appointment details, including time, date, and patient notification methods in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • In line with PCMH guidelines, discuss referral specifics and expectations with patients, clarifying any special instructions related to tests and providing written guidelines as needed.
  • Ensure timely processing of referrals.
  • Contact patients regarding their scheduled appointments through mail or phone communication.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills with healthcare providers, supervisors, colleagues, patients, and other departments as required.
  • Perform additional related tasks to support efficient operations.
  • Handle phone calls and perform other receptionist duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with the referral process and the insurance sector.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
