Position Overview
SUMMARY
The Field Operations Specialist is tasked with the collection of samples, observation, and inspection of products or raw materials for laboratory evaluation by executing the following responsibilities.
- Operates under direct supervision to carry out job functions.
- Gathers samples from products and/or raw materials during their transfer to containers, vessels, trucks, and/or rail.
- Ensures that sample containers and all associated documentation are marked with identifying information, sample location, date, and time of collection.
- Transports samples to the laboratory for evaluation.
- Prepares samples, including reduction and division into suitable sizes.
- Collects samples at designated locations, stages of processing, and time intervals.
- Conducts sample screening and/or other relevant physical assessments.
- Maintains organization and cleanliness of all equipment and containers before and after usage.
- Wears all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) pertinent to tasks at all times.
- Complies with all mandated local and federal safety protocols and procedures.
- May also engage in preparation or laboratory duties as dictated by business requirements.
- Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
- Performs additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- No prior experience is necessary unless mandated by state law.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS
- A valid and current Driver's license may be necessary if the role involves driving a company vehicle.
- May need to acquire a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card).
- May be required to obtain a 24-hour surface Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certificate; training is available through SGS.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
Language Skills:
Intermediate English is required (Advanced preferred).
Mathematical Skills:
Basic skills are required (Intermediate preferred).
Reasoning Skills/Abilities:
Intermediate level required, employing logical and practical approaches to problem-solving.
- Ability to effectively communicate (both in writing and verbally), presenting information individually or in small group settings to internal or external clients.
- Ability to follow instructions ensuring accuracy and completion within the required timeframe.
- Ability to address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Ability to work independently and under moderate supervision.

COMPUTER SKILLS
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) at an intermediate level is preferred.
TRAVEL
- Local day travel may be necessary; occasional overnight travel may be required.

- This role routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and telephones.
- This role may involve the use of sample preparation equipment, including Jaw Crushers, Bowl & Disc Pulverizing Mills, Pressure Filters, Riffle Splitters, Compressed Air, Hammer Mill Crushers, Ovens, Balances, and basic sampling tools.
