Job Summary

The San Jose Evergreen Community College District is seeking a highly skilled Financial Aid Specialist II to join our team. This grant-funded position is responsible for performing highly specialized functions involving computerized financial aid records and overall coordination of designated programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review applications and required documentation to determine financial need and program eligibility for various Federal, State, and District programs.
  • Perform technical duties related to departmental computer systems, including implementing, testing, and debugging program changes.
  • Participate in the file packaging process and assist in determining packaging parameters.
  • Prepare Federal and State reports to initiate funding levels for financial aid programs.
  • Provide second verification of application information and supporting documentation.
  • Interview and counsel students and parents concerning budget, cost of education, applications, and eligibility.
  • Maintain current knowledge of State and Federal financial aid programs.
  • Communicate with various District departments, governmental and private agencies, other colleges, financial institutions, and the public.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records, files, and reports related to financial aid activities.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, procedures, policies, and functions of Federal, State, and District financial aid programs.
  • Methods and techniques of financial aid need analysis.
  • Financial aid packaging methods and procedures.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Interviewing and counseling techniques.
  • Personal and financial problems encountered by college students and parents.
  • Financial and statistical record-keeping techniques.
  • Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • College and community resources for students.
  • Computer software used for financial aid processing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work with students/parents from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Determination of eligibility for financial aid through needs analysis.
  • Assistance in the development of financial aid packages to meet financial need.
  • Exercise of sound judgment in reviewing and evaluating student financial aid applications.
  • Interpretation of financial statements, income tax forms, and related documents.
  • Utilization of computer software for extensive reporting, tracking, and analysis.
Working Conditions

This position is represented by CSEA (California School Employees Association), Chapter 363. The work schedule is 12 months per year, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
