This role is situated within the Protection and Controls Division of the company. The engineer will undertake protection and control assignments that cater to our clients' needs. Collaboration with internal and client engineers and designers will be essential. Additionally, the engineer will provide training and mentorship to junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in both new and existing Protection and Control Projects within substations.
  • Configure relays and perform relay setting calculations using tools such as ASPEN, AcSELerator 5010 (SEL), and GE URPC Software.
  • Prepare settings in the required format and submit them to the designated Protection and Controls Supervisor via IPS.
  • Review and annotate protection schematics and elementary diagrams.
  • Utilize MOB Port to assess equipment and materials specified by substation engineers for Protection Designers.
  • Work with various equipment including transformers, circuit breakers, buses, reactors, line disconnects, protective relay systems (SEL, ABB, etc.), and SCADA systems.
  • Act as a project lead for protection and control initiatives.
  • Conduct all engineering and design tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Lead, facilitate, and coordinate the work of others within the team or department to successfully complete substation projects.
  • Provide training and support to junior staff members.
  • Identify and initiate corrective measures when project objectives are not achieved.
  • Interpret codes and regulations while developing standards for construction projects.
  • Advocate for engineering professionalism and standards.
  • Formulate, propose, and execute plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirements, including scheduling and resource allocation for complex engineering tasks.
  • This position may require occasional travel to field substations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of five to eight years of experience in utilities focusing on protection and controls.
  • Proven experience in managing engineering projects from inception to completion for five to eight years.
  • Experience in relay setting and designing one-line diagrams for five to eight years.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited).
  • A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited) will be considered as part of the experience requirement.
  • An Oklahoma PE License is mandatory.

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in performing design calculations such as battery sizing, AC and DC loads, system component selection, and circuit protection.
  • Intermediate knowledge of standards and codes including IEEE, ANSI, NERC-PRC, NEC, and NESC.
  • Solid understanding of protection and control equipment, relays, and fault analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend the interrelationships between systems and component equipment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively and seek assistance when necessary.
  • Demonstrated willingness and capability to take on leadership roles.
