Position Overview:

The City of Fort Dodge is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Emergency Medical Technician on a PRN basis. This position is crucial for providing exceptional patient care during emergencies and supporting paramedics in the safe transport of patients to healthcare facilities.

Core Duties:

Responsibilities Include:
  • Adhere to city and departmental policies to fulfill the mission of the City; maintain established standards for customer service, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Exhibit professional behavior to ensure quality patient care and support EMS division objectives.
  • Maintain knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA, and other regulatory standards; ensure compliance with patient confidentiality.
  • Attend regular crew meetings and educational sessions; fulfill annual education and competency requirements to maintain certification.
  • Stay informed about department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs; report any compliance concerns to the EMS Supervisor.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, agencies, colleagues, and the public.
  • Assist with various administrative and daily station tasks, including inventory management and equipment readiness checks.
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid driver's license with insurability.
  • Emergency Medical Technician certification from the State of Iowa.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Health-Care Provider Certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
Special Requirements:
  • Completion of stroke education and ongoing training as mandated.
  • Compliance with immunization and health testing requirements as directed by the Fire Chief and Medical Director.
PRN status employees will receive legally mandated benefits, but are not eligible for the City of Fort Dodge's health plan and additional benefits.
