Role Purpose: The Senior Facilities Project Manager plays a crucial role in collaborating with the Director of Facilities to effectively execute projects while minimizing disruptions to the Museum's operations. Projects will vary in scale and complexity, requiring coordination with various Museum staff and contractors. The Senior Project Manager will ensure successful project completion while keeping the Director of Facilities informed and engaged throughout the process.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Facilities to manage components of an annual $4.0 million operational budget and oversee capital projects up to $10 million. Projects typically range from $50k to $1M and will involve significant interaction with the building's mechanical systems.
  • Ensure seamless integration of projects within the Museum's extensive physical infrastructure, which encompasses 1,000,000 square feet across seven multi-purpose buildings, including a parking garage, planetarium, and various exhibit and office spaces.
  • Engage with up to 50 Museum employees and contractors who will contribute to project execution.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the building's electrical systems and steam systems, which are critical for construction and renovation initiatives.
  • Gain familiarity with essential building systems, including natural gas boilers, chilled water systems, high voltage distribution, generators, fire safety systems, elevators, and advanced building management systems.
  • Occasionally interface with Museum Board Members through relevant committees focused on physical facilities and environmental sustainability.
  • Work collaboratively with various Museum teams to ensure project integration during and after operational hours, maintaining a positive visitor experience.
  • Act as the primary on-site coordinator for construction and facility-related projects, reviewing contractor submissions, assisting consultants, and facilitating pre-bid and pre-construction meetings.
  • Oversee the development of bid documents and manage the solicitation and evaluation of proposals in partnership with the Director of Facilities.
  • Supervise architects, engineers, public agencies, and contractors on assigned projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
  • Process change orders and keep the Director of Facilities updated on significant changes or issues, while inspecting ongoing and completed work.
  • Safeguard the Museum's interests by supporting and enforcing policies and initiatives, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and accessibility.
  • Respond to emergency situations that may threaten the safety of staff, guests, and property, following established emergency preparedness protocols.
  • Be available on-call to ensure the continuous operation of facility systems, which may include working weekends and holidays as needed.

Qualifications for Success:

Essential Skills:

  • Technical expertise and practical knowledge of relevant environmental and utility systems throughout all project phases.
  • Ability to create RFPs and provide necessary drawings and analytical documentation.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and sketches.
  • Familiarity with building codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in financial analysis, project planning, and budget management.
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse range of significant construction projects.
  • Strong communication skills, including technical writing and presentation abilities.
  • Competence in using Windows, Microsoft Word, AutoCAD (or similar software), and other relevant applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of building management systems is advantageous.
  • Experience with building electrical and life safety operations.
  • Familiarity with equipment supporting climate-controlled environments is preferred.
  • Understanding of sustainability and accessibility standards.
  • PMP certification is a plus.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to the Director of Facilities.
