Position Overview

Enlace Chicago leads the Little Village Education Collaborative (LVEC), a coalition of educational stakeholders in Little Village aimed at: 1) Enhancing resources and opportunities 2) Elevating educational outcomes 3) Dismantling barriers and silos 4) Influencing decision-making and advocating for policy reform 5) Achieving collective impact through community engagement. LVEC emphasizes collaboration, advocacy, and direct services to effect policy and systems change that align with the educational goals of Little Village residents.

Role Description: Enlace Chicago seeks a dedicated individual to work with LVEC High School-Postsecondary partners, including local schools, district offices, colleges, and families, to deliver personalized college coaching to youth in Little Village. The Postsecondary Success Coach will be based at a local high school, collaborating closely with school staff to identify key student demographics and provide comprehensive individualized post-secondary planning support.

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Post-Secondary Manager and is accountable to the Director of Education.

Key Collaborations: Engages with Enlace's Education Team, Enlace Chicago Staff, CPS Staff, LVEC partners, and community stakeholders.

Position Status: Full-time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be an integral part of Enlace's Postsecondary Team, which includes the Postsecondary Manager, College Pipeline Specialist, two Postsecondary Coaches, and 1-2 interns.
  • Collaborate with the host high school to contribute to the school's Postsecondary Leadership Team.
  • Identify and establish a cohort of priority senior students (e.g., undocumented students, students with low GPAs, racially diverse students) in partnership with the school's College and Career Coach and/or counselor, providing tailored post-secondary planning support.
  • Guide and assist students through the college scholarship application process, focusing on programs such as Posse, Gates, and Wings.
  • Work alongside the College Pipeline Specialist to connect high school students with STEAM summer internships and opportunities regularly.
  • Coordinate with Community Schools staff to streamline academic and enrichment support for students as needed.

Community Engagement:

  • Maintain regular office hours during school hours and some weekends.
  • Partner with the host high school and College Pipeline Specialist to offer postsecondary coaching to parents through various initiatives, including Parent Nights, one-on-one meetings, workshops, and presentations.
  • Facilitate a Social Justice Club for 9th-12th grade students at the host high school, promoting leadership development and civic engagement.
  • Collaborate with the host high school and Postsecondary Team to provide targeted support to Little Village high school alumni.
  • Actively participate in city-wide groups and committees focused on postsecondary success, such as the To&Through Project, Thrive, 60by25 Network, and UChicago Poverty Lab.
  • Stay informed on research, policies, and trends related to the postsecondary success of undocumented students, first-generation students, and students of color.
  • Develop and implement evaluation and data tracking tools in collaboration with the Education Evaluation and Data Specialist, the Postsecondary Team, and the Education Director.
  • Contribute to the development of new grants, programs, and initiatives as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution required; College & Career Credential and/or FAFSA Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience or strong passion for college access and success initiatives.
  • Experience working with high school students and their families.
  • Familiarity with the challenges faced by undocumented students, first-generation students, and students of color in accessing higher education.
  • Knowledge of community engagement strategies and frameworks; understanding of the Chicago Public Schools system and postsecondary initiatives.
  • Understanding of community organizing and advocacy principles.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish.
  • Experience working with Latinx and African American communities.
  • Comfort in facilitating meetings and workshops.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical abilities.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and work collaboratively.

Working Conditions: Some local travel required. Ability to transport outreach materials weighing 15-20 lbs. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience; comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, life, and short- and long-term disability insurance, 403b retirement options, and generous paid time off.
