Caregiver for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Seniors

New England Homes for the Deaf is a life plan community founded in 1901, dedicated to providing accessible, barrier-free care to seniors who are Deaf, Deafblind, or hard of hearing.
Job Description:
This role involves providing exceptional care to our residents as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in our long-term care and nursing facility. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a strong commitment to patient care, and a passion for working with Deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to residents, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
- Develop and maintain accurate and detailed records of resident care, including medical histories, treatment plans, and progress notes.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized care plans that meet the unique needs of each resident.
- Assist residents with activities of daily living, promoting independence and dignity.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare professionals using ASL and written communication methods.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Licensed RN/LPN in good standing in the state of Massachusetts.
- Knowledge of ASL and Deaf culture is a plus, with free weekly ASL classes provided on-site.
- CPR certification and adherence to the nursing code of ethics.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, and maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations.
- Familiarity with body mechanics for transferring residents and effective communication skills.
- Pleasant and professional personality, with a strong commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
Salary and Benefits:
The estimated salary for this role is $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include access to free ASL classes, competitive pay, and a supportive work environment.
