Job Title: Communication Studies Lecturer Pool

We are seeking qualified candidates for a pool of temporary lecturers in the Department of Communication Studies at San José State University.

Job Summary:

The Department of Communication Studies teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in communication rooted in theoretical frameworks, research methods, and practical application. We offer a B.A. degree with over 800 majors, an M.A. degree with over 30 students, and multiple minors. Our department offers a substantial number of GE courses, including COMM 20, Public Speaking, and COMM 100W, Writing Workshop.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach lower division GE courses in Communication Studies, such as COMM 10: Interpersonal Communication, COMM 20: Public Speaking, and COMM 40: Argumentation and Advocacy.
  • With relevant education and experience, candidates may teach upper division GE courses, such as COMM 100W: Writing Workshop, COMM 157SL: Community Action/Community Service, and COMM 174: Intercultural Communication.
  • With a terminal degree or relevant professional expertise, candidates may teach upper division major courses.
Requirements:
  • MA degree in Communication Studies or related field.
  • Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline to which the individual is assigned.
  • Ability to teach and evaluate adult learners.
  • Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree or professional experience relevant to upper division Communication Studies major courses.
