This role is situated within the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), specifically in the Office of Secure Transportation (OST), under the Aviation Operations Division. The successful candidate will assume the responsibilities of Pilot in Command and/or Co-Pilot for a 737 aircraft, contributing to the OST's critical mission.

Key Responsibilities
As a Commercial Aircraft Pilot, your duties will include:
- Delivering pilot services as either Pilot in Command or Co-Pilot of 737 aircraft for the transportation of personnel and sensitive cargo, both domestically and internationally.
- Engaging in Emergency Response drills and fulfilling on-call pilot/duty officer responsibilities for a minimum of 7 days each month or as needed to meet mission demands.
- Coordinating aviation missions across a wide range of contingency operations.
- Transporting hazardous materials, including explosives, weapons, armed couriers, and significant quantities of radiological materials.
Requirements
- Participation in Random Drug Testing.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.
- Favorable suitability assessment is mandatory.
- Financial Disclosure is a requirement.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Q level Security Clearance.
- Must be a United States Citizen.

- Compliance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12) regarding personal identification, necessitating the provision of two forms of ID.

- FAA Airman Certificate (both front and back copies required). Military pilots without an FAA certificate may submit flight orders or records demonstrating aircraft type and designated position.
- Submission of a FAA Form is required for application.
- While not mandatory, applicants will need to provide a current FAA Class I or II medical certificate prior to appointment.
- Subject to the Human Reliability Program.
- Participation in both scheduled and unscheduled emergency response drills and events is required.
- This position entails regular exposure to noise levels, necessitating participation in the Hearing Conservation Program.
- Mandatory use of personal protective equipment.
- Maintaining an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate for PIC, a Commercial Pilot Certificate for SIC, a 737-Type Rating, and an FAA Class II Medical Certificate is essential.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:
Possession of an FAA Type Rating (for any large aircraft exceeding 70,000 lbs MGTOW and/or equipped with a turbojet powerplant) or Military Aircraft Commander Qualification (as evidenced in military flight records) in a passenger/cargo aircraft.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service, i.e., NQ-02 or GS-12. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Operating large jet aircraft as a Pilot in Command or Second in Command for an airline, cargo, military, or corporate operation. Experience must include actively flying cargo and/or personnel in a large transport category aircraft with recency of flight in the past 12 months (100 hrs.) and a minimum of 250 PIC flight hours and 1,500 total flight hours. Candidates must have over 1,500 flight hours in B-737, military C-40, or similar cargo or passenger aircraft (over 70,000 lbs.).
Examples of Specialized Experience:
- Operating large jet aircraft as a Pilot in Command or Second in Command for an airline, cargo, or corporate operation.
- Experience as a military transport pilot, including flight planning, weight and balance calculations, and self-dispatch.
- Experience as a commercial chief pilot.
No specific educational qualifications are required for this position.
