As part of our innovative team, you will engage in the design and implementation of advanced nuclear power systems. The role involves conducting essential radiation shielding, assessing radionuclide transport, and evaluating dose exposure to support the operational needs of our nuclear facilities, particularly in the context of the SMR-160 reactor's development and regulatory compliance. We are looking for a proactive individual who is eager to tackle a diverse range of technical and regulatory challenges. This position plays a crucial role in a U.S. Government-funded development initiative, emphasizing the timely execution of engineering tasks.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Assessing radiation source terms and their impact on various systems and components within the SMR-160 reactor during both standard operations and transient scenarios.
- Designing radiation protection features and conducting assessments for occupational exposure and site dose levels during normal and transient operational conditions.
- Preparing reports and documentation necessary for licensing processes.
- Engaging in discussions with clients, partners, and representatives from the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
- Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering or Physics (or a closely related discipline) from an accredited institution.
- 0-5 years of relevant experience in the nuclear sector or related fields (such as academia or national laboratories).
- Proficiency in radiation source term analysis, shielding, and dose assessment tools, including MCNP, SCALE, GALE, ARCON96, RADTRAD, or similar software.
- Fundamental understanding of nuclear power plant operations and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering with a focus on radiation protection and dose assessment.
- 5+ years of professional experience in the nuclear industry or a related field, particularly in engineering evaluations and calculations.
- Experience in performing radiological release and transport calculations to assess exposure risks to workers and the public.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python.
- Experience in preparing licensing documentation for submission to regulatory bodies, with a comprehensive understanding of NUREG-0800 (NRC Standard Review Plan for LWRs) Chapters 12 and 15.
- Eligibility to work under Department of Energy regulations, specifically 10 CFR Part 810.
