Unlock Your Potential as a Nurse Resident
Our Transition to Practice Nurse Residency Program is designed to extend the basic education and skills of the graduate nurse and support them in the transition to a professional nurse over the course of a 12-month program.
- Our program focuses on providing a culture where professional growth and learning is prioritized and supported.
- You'll be paired with a trained preceptor for the integration and socialization in the culture of professional nursing.
- You'll provide direct patient care in an acute care setting, maintaining a culture where professional growth and learning is fostered in a safe and trustful environment.
- You'll receive support from experienced mentors, educators, and leadership.
- You'll participate in professional development sessions focused on clinical judgment, knowledge application, and professional growth.
- You'll create an evidence-based project designed to integrate nurse residents into a professional career as a lifelong learner.
- You'll support and follow Central Maine Healthcare Service standards, including mission, vision, and values.
- You'll act in accordance with nursing guidelines, policies, and procedures both of the organization and the Maine State Board of Nursing.
- You'll provide patient and family-centered care across the continuum, focusing on dignity and respect.
- You'll demonstrate interpersonal communication skills for effectively communicating with the entire healthcare team.
- You'll meet mandatory attendance for professional development sessions over the 12-month residency program.
Essential Duties:
- You'll provide direct and indirect patient care in the acute care setting using time management skills to care for patients.
- You'll obtain nursing history, perform nursing assessment, and develop a plan of care for patients.
- You'll demonstrate knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
- You'll treat patients and their families with respect and dignity.
- You'll identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
- You'll function as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
- You'll demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served.
- You'll consult other health team members/departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patients' needs.
- You'll document according to current standards and policies.
- You'll manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
- You'll coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary.
- You'll demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations.
- You'll maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
- You'll enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- You'll complete competency-based orientation.
- You'll educate and advocate for our patients, ensuring they understand their health issues and available resources.
Education and Experience:
- Recent graduate from an accredited ADN or BSN program with less than 1-year experience.
- Active nurse licensure or eligible to obtain Maine State licensure.
- Active BLS certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to engage patients and team members utilizing the CMH Experience Standards.
