Job Summary

Crittenden Community Hospital is seeking a skilled Admissions Clerk/Telephone Operator to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for scheduling, processing, and admitting patients to the hospital, as well as providing exceptional customer service to our patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule and Process Admissions: Schedule elective admissions to medical floors and alert appropriate departments to emergency admissions. Prepare and enter into the computer admission data and ensure that insurance information is completed.
  • Provide Exceptional Customer Service: Receive patient and obtain information. Do the same for emergency patients in emergency room. Ensure patient or guardian understands and signs consent and insurance forms. Prepare identification bracelet. Arrange for safekeeping of patients valuables. Arrange for transport of patients to patient room or other hospital department.
  • Compile and Distribute Patient Information: Compile and distribute information regarding patients personal, insurance, and financial status. Provide appropriate forms to billing and other departments. Compile daily census and inpatient admission and distribute to appropriate departments. Ensure signatures are obtained according to medical-legal guidelines.
  • Assist with Bed Assignment: Assist the assigning beds on patient preference, diagnosis, age and condition.
  • Collect Deposits: Collect deposit for all services rendered.
  • Pre-Admit Outpatient Surgery Patients: Pre-admit outpatient surgery patients. Assemble outpatient surgery chart.
  • Post Charges: Post charges daily to patient accounts.
  • Dispatch Ambulance: Dispatch ambulance and maintain ambulance log per departmental policy.
  • Verify Census: On designated shifts, calculates daily census and verifies accuracy of nursing unit census listing.
  • Communicate with Staff: Beep or page on-call employees and doctors. Channel all incoming calls; provide direct numbers as required. Connect inside callers with long distance lines when appropriate.
  • Respond to Emergencies: Respond to emergency calls following established protocols.
  • Maintain Department Records: Maintain department records, reports and files as required.
  • Perform Other Duties: Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma: High School diploma preferred.
  • Computer Skills: Computer, filing and office practice experience preferred.
  • Good Communication Skills: Good oral and written communication skills.
