POSITION SUMMARY:

The Aquatic Camp Supervisor is accountable for overseeing all facets of pool activities at the JCC Day Camps. This includes managing lifeguards, campers, and facilitating both instructional and recreational swimming sessions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

● The Aquatic Camp Supervisor will aid in enforcing attendance and punctuality protocols.

● It is essential for the Aquatic Camp Supervisor to ensure that all lifeguards are attired in the appropriate uniform, which includes a shirt, shorts, and whistle. During the summer, lifeguards should also wear caps, sunglasses, and apply sunscreen while staying hydrated.

● The Supervisor will assist in maintaining the work schedule and promptly inform management of any scheduling conflicts.

● Responsibilities include directing lifeguards to set up deck umbrellas at 9 AM and ensuring cushions are placed on deck chairs.

● Regular inspections of the pools and surrounding areas for cleanliness are required. The Supervisor will notify management if vacuuming is necessary and check all gutters and skimmers around the main pool. They will also assist with water testing and record the chemical levels in all three pools.

● Maintaining open communication with all staff members is crucial, as is addressing any concerns raised by members and resolving them when possible.

● The Supervisor will enforce all opening and closing protocols, ensuring that all doors are properly locked and keys are returned to the designated area.

● Lifeguards must prioritize safety at all times by removing hazards, keeping the area organized, returning all equipment, and enforcing pool regulations.

● The Aquatic Camp Supervisor will check all lifeguard equipment, including first aid kits, to ensure they are adequately stocked.

● The Supervisor may need to fill in for staff as necessary to prevent any disruptions to pool operations.

● Any issues with lifeguard staff should be addressed by the Supervisor in a professional and courteous manner, ideally in the pool office. Teamwork and effective communication among staff are expected.

● The chain of command is as follows: Aquatic Camp Supervisor, Pool Managers, and other supervisory staff. Adherence to this hierarchy is essential.

● Safety remains the primary responsibility of all staff members. It is vital to communicate openly, respect each other, and work collaboratively as a cohesive team.

● Staff members are expected to comply with additional related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

● Comprehensive knowledge of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques.

● Ability to instruct, assign, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards effectively.

● Understanding of facility operations, rules, policies, and procedures.

● Strong leadership and public relations skills.

● Proficient decision-making abilities.

● Capability to identify hazards and unsafe practices, along with making appropriate recommendations for risk mitigation.
