Job Summary

The International Licensing Manager plays a crucial role in managing all aspects of Dark Horse controlled or represented intellectual properties across the globe. This position is responsible for negotiating and securing licensing agreements for the localized publication of controlled properties, driving revenue growth through strategic partnerships, and ensuring adherence to brand standards and contractual agreements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify potential publishing opportunities and negotiate agreements that align with the goals of Dark Horse and its partners.
  • Review contracts to determine the titles to which translation rights are available and maintain department records.
  • Prepare and send rights guides and e-newsletters.
  • Track submissions and send review materials, final files, and finished books.
  • Review translated materials and seek approval from licensors.
  • Collaborate with the department's other International Licensing Manager to split responsibilities by territory and avoid duplication of efforts.
  • Oversight of invoicing and payment tracking with the accounting department.
  • Provide timely responses to inquiries from publishers and licensors regarding publication schedules, printing specifications, and file availability.
  • Coordinate permissions, renewals/extensions, and amendments.
  • Prepare for and attend international book fairs and domestic comics conventions.
  • Build and maintain trust and rapport with industry professionals.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in licensing/localized publishing industry. International experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Talent for prioritizing, organizing, and multi-tasking to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills.
  • A strong desire to collaborate, share, listen, and learn.
  • Flexibility to work well in an in-office team setting as well as independently.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with a collaborative approach to team management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an understanding of and patience for potential language barriers.
  • Familiarity with Mac OS and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, valid passport required.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with publishing, licensing, or legal environments and terminology.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of the comics industry, book publishing, or toy/collectible industry.
  • An interest in popular culture, including comics, manga, TV/movies, video games, etc.

Salary: $52,000-$73,100
