Job Overview

Purely Startup is seeking a highly skilled Cost Engineer to support our Utility and Airport customers throughout Southern California. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for monitoring and forecasting engineering contractor costs, performing budgeting and quantity tracking, and analyzing trends to ensure project success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cost Monitoring and Forecasting: Monitor and forecast engineering contractor costs to ensure accurate budgeting and minimize potential cost overruns.
  • Budgeting and Quantity Tracking: Perform budgeting, quantity tracking of deliverables, and analyze trends to update cash flow forecasts and report project performance.
  • Progress Reporting: Review progress reports, monthly invoices, and work with our Accounts Payable team to ensure timely processing in our SAP system.
  • Contractor Management: Monitor contractor staffing levels and productivity, and take steps to minimize deviations and potential cost overruns.
  • Reporting and Analytics: Compile monthly information on cost status and incorporate it into our internal monthly report (Dashboards) for management review.
  • Owner Reporting: Support owner reporting through the use of our new internal reporting tool (Oracle based).
  • Change Order Management: Proactively review RFIs with our Project Engineer to identify potential change orders for cost impact.
  • EVM Analysis: Use Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques to understand trends and report realistic EAC to management for swift decision-making.
  • Progress Review: Review engineering progress, collect data from functional team heads, and report to our Project Management Team about progress.
  • Scheduling and Meetings: Work actively with scheduling, attend on-site meetings (as requested) with engineering contractors and other subcontractors.
  • Estimating Support: Support our Estimating team in reviewing and developing AACE Class 3, 4 & 5 TIC estimates, including development of full project lifecycle cash flows.
  • Budget Planning: Support our owner in preparing budget planning, monthly variance explanations, and data requests.
